Hannes Bleuler obtained his diploma in Electrical Engineering at ETH Zurich in 1978 and also got his Mechatronics PhD (Magnetic Bearings) at ETH in 1984. After that he worked at Hitachi in Japan (Mechanical Engineering Research Lab MERL in Tsuchiura), then he was employed as a lecture and a researcher at Tokyo technology Institute for four months and at ETH from 1987 to 1991. He is co-founder of the MECOS-Traxler AG. He was a researcher of “Toshiba Intelligent Mechatronics” at the Industrial Technology Institute of  Tokyo University in 1991, and promoted to associate professor of the Precision Engineering Department in 1994.


He has been employed by the Micro engineering Department of EPFL as a full-time professor (Swiss Federal Inst. of Technology Lausanne) since 1995, at that same time biomedical robotics became his main research area. He focused on robotics hardware, mechatronics and high precision robotics, especially parallel robotics which started by his predecessors (Clavel, Delta Robot). He has been a full IEEE member and Academician at the Swiss Academy of Technical Sciences (SATW).
